It has been 17 years and 319 days since the city’s pledge to build the West Branch Library.
We are a compassionate country but I hope we are not a stupid country. Why would we accept healthy, young Syrian men who most assuredly hold belief in Sharia Law? Why are these young men not on their country’s battlefield? Accept women and children, for they are the true victims in so many ways. As the Syrian Yazidi Christians were being slaughtered earlier this year and we saw the beheading of Christians and heard that their women were sold into slavery where was the administration outrage? Why did we not hear the administration offering to accept 10,000 of the Yazidi?
Senator Dianne Feinstein, a ranking Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said, “I have never been more concerned. I read the intelligence faithfully. ISIL is not contained. ISIL is expanding. They’ve just put out a video saying it is their intent to attack this country.”
At least sixteen governors have said that they will not accept Syrian refugees. I applaud Governor Ducey’s decision to not accept refugees. In his statement he said, “Given the horrifying events in Paris last week, I am calling for an immediate halt in the placement of any new refugees in Arizona. As governor, I am invoking our state’s right under 8 USC, Section 1522 (a), to receive immediate consultation by federal authorities per the United States Refugee Act, and that the federal government take into account the concerns and recommendations of the state of Arizona as they are required to under federal law, in our efforts to keep our homeland safe. I also call on Congress and the President to immediately amend federal law to provide states greater oversight and authority in the administration of the placement of refugees. These acts serve as a reminder that the world remains at war with radical Islamic terrorists. Our national leaders must react with the urgency and leadership that every American expects to protect our citizens.”
Did you know there are 10 federally affiliated refugee processing centers in Arizona? One in Glendale; five in Phoenix; and four in Tucson. Have they processed any of the 10,000 Syrian refugees being held in New Orleans? The information on refugee locations is courtesy of Dawn Monaghan via Brad Richdale:

Yes, we remain a compassionate country that will accept your tired, your hungry and your poor but we are not a stupid country that willingly will accept terrorists whose only mandate is to destroy the Inifidel…us.

Unfortunately as we know now, a few ARE on “their countries battlefield”
And all it takes is a few.
If they are allowed into our country ( only a third are Syrians) and perpetrate a massacre on the scale of Paris, the people who let them in our country will be culpable in murder.
I am a progressive liberal who for the first time have purchased weapons ( 870 Remington- Beretta 9 mm)

This Trojan Horse situations shows that we will have to protect ourselves.
I hope I am up to the task.
I will start my rant by saying upfront that I am not and never have been an Obama fan. I am sure he is a likable person but as president he is a disaster. When he was in Congress, his voting record was dismal. He had no experience in anything.
The refugee situation is a difficult one, but clearly, ISIS is among them. And although several governors don’t want to take the refugees, it is a federal issue & so it will be interesting to see what happens & the influence the govenors have. I personally do not hold much hope with the current Administration.
As we know ISIS wants to eradicate anyone who is not Muslim. For the President to say they are contained in Syria & Iraq is absurd. Frankly there is NO border between Syria & Iraq. ISIS meanders back & forth between the 2 countries at their will. They do the same between the European countries. While ISIS is doing grandiose, horrific effects, they are also doing things that are not being talked about widely or in mainstream media. For example western women are marrying Muslim men @ vice versa. Even if the woman or man is not Muslim, if one of them are, they must bring up their children in the Muslim faith. And guess what, they are having 6 & 7 or more children! Meanwhile Western civilization is only having 1-3 children, for the most part. While not all are Muslim extremists, many are! Where does that leave future generations? These people are very, very clever & unfortunately the US has underestimated them at every single turn– from calling them a JV team to saying they are contained.
At this time I personally do not feel that the US is in the position to be able to accept any refugees from any country. We have our own system that is broken and these individuals would likely end up in that system because it is broken.
We need to be taking care of our elderly, veterans and work out a solid immigration plan and have it implemented before we allow anyone to become a citizen, regardless of whether they are a refugee or immigrant from ANY country.
Young men are not the only ones who are extremists or terrorists. There are women and children as well and they are even easier to slip through the cracks because they are not as watched as the young men.
Arizona itself is below 10 in the United States on accepting immigrants. They say their is a rather extensive screening process before giving any of them refugee status here, but who do you call in Syria to confirm their background? You can only go based on what intelligence has record of and obviously that is flawed after what we just saw happen in Paris. It isn’t a perfect system.
Unfortunately, our current leadership is not going to listen to the Governors of our nation. They have their own agenda, if they had a better plan or knew what was actually going on in the mid-east the troops never would have been pulled out, however, their agenda is to ignore what has been right under their noses and let them continue to tear apart one country after another. Also, it is federal law that we accept these refugees and that they are placed where the refugees want to be placed or as close to that place as possible, but it will not stop them from crossing borders into other states.
I’m so glad that France went after the terrorists and even went as far as to declared war on them, its about time that a country takes some action, it is very unfortunate that it had to lead to this attack for this action to take place. If the heads weren’t in the cloud with arrogance this could have been averted.
I must share another view as the son of an immigrant words cannot express how much I appreciate the opportunity this county has provided to me and my family. It hurts me to listen and read this hateful and irrational speech. I hope as someone who is often mistaken for someone of middle eastern decedent would not have to now carry my birth certificate when I go to the grocery store. I used to joke about having to take my passport to some parts of this country but I am beginning to think while the passport would work for some areas of the south, it will not work in my home state now that my governor do not want any refugee in his state.
What seem to be loss in the discussion is that these people were mostly French nationals. Are we not going to let the French into our county or is it going to be limited just the French national of color.
Holder, I can appreciate your comments but not everything you said is factually correct. Our country is a land of immigrants. My grandparents immigrated from Poland in 1902. They faced discrimination but assimilated. Their children, my parents, had a better life than they did and graduated from college in the 1930’s. Today it is a far different world. Radicalized Islamists want to come to this country for one purpose only…to kill us when they can. The current discussion is not about French nationals but about Syrian radicals, some of whom have infiltrated the refugee population and our inability to vet them. Under these circumstances we have no choice but to err on the side of caution.

Joyce I wish I could understand your fears but I grew up believing the we are bigger than the people that hate us. And as someone of color it got me through many challenging moments. To loose faith in our system and turn our backs on these suffering people is just not what we are made of and is not what makes us great. We cannot hide behind the empty slogan of being better safe than sorry. How about surprising them and do the right thing when they expect us to not answer this urgent call for help.
Tahj, Thank you. I understand your point of view as I have held it for many years but not in this case. We live in a much different world now. Some have likened it to World War III. ISIS is like no group the free world has had to confront in the past. Many of the parameters for conflict no longer hold. When ISIS says it will infiltrate the refugees with their fighters it is foolish not to believe them. Our country’s leadership’s prime directive is the integrity and safety of this nation.
